Our look at
ATLAS ENERGY

February 2010 - Atlas Energy has identified over 3,150 horizontal Marcellus Shale drilling locations on its acreage.

Atlas Energy
develops and produces natural gas in the eastern United States. An indirect subsidiary, Atlas Resources, LLC, manages and sponsors natural gas drilling partnerships.

Atlas and its affiliates have a large presence in the Marcellus Shale gas play. Affiliated companies include Atlas America, Inc., Atlas Pipeline Partners, and Atlas Pipeline Holdings.

Formed in 2006, Atlas Energy owns and operates most of the natural gas assets and the investment partnership management business of Atlas America, Inc.   Atlas America expanded in 1998 when it acquired The Atlas Group, Inc. and again in 1999 when it acquired Viking Resources Corporation. In 2007, Atlas Energy acquired DTE Gas & Oil Company.

In September 2009 Atlas America, Inc. and natural gas producer Atlas Energy Resources LLC completed a merger between a subsidiary of Atlas America with and into Atlas Energy. Atlas Energy survives the merger as a wholly owned subsidiary of Atlas America. Atlas America, Inc. has now changed its name to Atlas Energy, Inc.

In 2009, Atlas became part of a joint venture with The Williams Companies and formed Laurel Mountain Midstream, LLC.
