Our look at the
BEDILLION-DAY UNIT

AMWELL TOWNSHIP, PA - Fall 2009 drilling led to winter flaring at the Bedillion-Day Unit, which is just south of Washington Pennsylvania. This drilling unit is located across the road from a MarkWest compressor station and not far from the John Day Production Pad and Impoundment. The impoundment sits along a neighboring ridgeline and is visible high above Interstate 79 before the Lone Pine exit.

Permit Num: 125-23153
Municipality: Amwell
County: Washington
Well Name: Bedillion-Day 2H
Company: Range Resources
Incident Date: In the months before 9/4/2008
Inspection Date: 9/4/2008
Fine Date: 2009-10-02
Fine: $25,000
Group Fine: Yes (5)
Lead Permit: 125-23153 (3)
Violation: Encroachment on a stream; during an inspection, a state inspector found that the company had failed to obtain a state waiver to construct an impoundment within 100 feet of a stream, an unnamed tributary to Little Tenmile Creek.
Response: Company applied for a waiver and it was granted by the state; company said it did not apply for the waiver because of an administrative misunderstanding with its engineering consultant; company said it needed to build an impoundment so close to the stream because of the topography of the area, and that the impoundment would only hold fresh water.
