RANGE RESOURCES CHAPPEL No 1-20

Pa DEP Fine

Permit Num: 125-23970
Municipality: Hopewell
County: Washington
Well Name: Chappel 1H
Company: Range Resources
Incident Date: 2/14/2011
Inspection Date: 2/14/2011
Fine Date: 2012-04-13
Fine: $18,025
Group Fine: Yes (4)
Lead Permit:125-23852 (4)
Violation: Spill; 42 to 84 gallons of hydraulic fracturing flowback fluid spilled to the ground from a transfer line, through a drain and over the hillside for about 50 to 60 feet before it was stopped with a hand dug ditch.
Response: Company said the spill was the result of a leak in a welded seem of a transfer line that was transferring the flowback fluid to an impoundment; a vacuum truck sucked up the visible fluid and contaminated soil was excavated and disposed of in a landfill.
