Our look at
ENCANA CORPORATION

  

With Canadian roots, EnCana is one of the largest natural gas companies in North America, with over 3,800 employees and contractors.  EnCana Corporation split their oil and gas assets into two companies on November 30, 2009.  EnCana is actively involved in gas plays in the United States and Canada.
   
Natural gas resource plays in the US:

 * Bossier in eastern Texas
 * Jonah in Wyoming
 * Piceance in Colorado (EnCana acquired Tom Brown Inc. in 2004)
 * G
as gathering and processing in Colorado, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.
  
Further Canadian gas resource plays include the Bighorn Deep Basin in western Alberta, Greater Sierra and Cutbank Ridge in British Columbia and coalbed methane (CBM) in central/southern Alberta.  In 2007, EnCana received approval for the Deep Panuke offshore gas project in Nova Scotia.
   
Shale gas plays have focused on:
 * Barnett Shale in northern Texas
 * Haynesville Shale in Texas and Louisiana
 * Horn River Shale in NE British Columbia
 *
Montney Shale in Alberta and British Columbia
   
EnCana entered the Pennsylvania Marcellus Shale play in 2009.
