Fortuna Energy Inc.
traces its roots to Canada, as an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary
of Talisman Energy Inc. of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Since incorporation as a Delaware Corporation in 2002, Fortuna
Energy has become New York State’s largest gas producer. Growth
began with the acquisition of specific
NY Trenton-Black River
assets of ABARTA Oil & Gas Co Inc,
East Resources, and Fairman Drilling Company in 2002, and
a similar acquisition from Pennsylvania General Energy
Company LLC in 2003.
Fortuna acquired the Appalachian Trenton-Black River
assets of Belden & Blake Corporation
in 2004. Another acquisition was made from Columbia
Natural Resources. In 2008,
Fortuna drilled its first
Marcellus Shale
gas well
in Troy, Pa.
In early 2009, Fortuna had 75 gas wells in the Trenton Black River (TBR)
formation and 10 Marcellus Shale
wells, with infrastructure that included 180 miles of gathering
system pipelines and 5 compressor stations.
Fortuna operated in four New York counties in 2009: Chemung,
Schuyler, Steuben, and Tioga; as well as Bradford County
in Pennsylvania. Fortuna holds oil and gas leases in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and
West Virginia.
