Pennsylvania General Electric
is a privately held, independent oil and natural gas exploration
company, founded in Pennsylvania in 1978. What began as drilling 15
shallow wells per year has grown to drilling 100 wells in the
Appalachian Basin each year.
Exploration activities have expanded from NW Pennsylvania into
Marcellus Shale areas of Pennsylvania’s northern tier, as well as
central and southern regions of Pennsylvania, and portions of West
Virginia.
In 1988, PGE acquired 80,000 acres of Quaker State’s oil, gas
and mineral rights in New York and Pennsylvania. In 1995, PGE
acquired natural gas wells and 1,200 producing oil wells from
Pennzoil Corporation.
Pennsylvania General Electric’s first horizontal Marcellus
Shale well was drilled and completed in Elk County Pa in 2005,
making them a Marcellus Shale pioneer along with
Range
Resources.
PGE will be adding three new horizontal drilling rigs to their rig
inventory by the end of 2011.
