MARCELLUS SHALE

Our look at
NATURAL GAS PROCESSING PLANTS
IN PENNSYLVANIA

Natural gas processing plant construction continued at a brisk pace in Pennsylvania above the southwestern portion of the Marcellus Shale. Compressor stations continue to be constructed near gas well sites while larger gas processing plants are also built, being expanded or under construction.

In combination with other gas refineries to the west and south, these plants separate gas products (methane, propane, butane, pentane, ethane) for transport through gas pipelines running north to Canada, south to the Texas coast and east to an ocean port near Philadelphia. Exported natural gas products often bring a much higher price from foreign sales.
