Our look at
RED OAK WATER TRANSFER

Hydro-fracturing of a Marcellus Shale gas well requires up to 6-million gallons of water. In rural locations that lack city water, it becomes necessary to either truck water in, or send it through temporary pipelines. This water is also a preferred source since it may be free. Pennsylvania restrictions on drawing down streams appear to be very lax, even during periods of drought.

Red Oak Water Transfer is one of the main players on Marcellus Shale in Washington County when it comes to setting-up and pumping water from streams, ponds and special holding areas for hydraulic fracturing. Some of these pipelines may run for miles, just to get water to the next horizontal gas well frac. This page includes photos of some of those water transfers on Marcellus Shale.
